Bijon is the first Bangladeshi Film Production/Directing MFA- graduate from the
prestigious Film, Television, and Theatre Department of University of California, Los
Angeles. His debut feature flm Kingdom of Clay Subjects has World Premiered at 42nd
Seattle International Film Festival. He has received numerous awards for his
flimmaking including Motion Picture Association of America Awards, Edie and Lew
Wasserman Film Production fellowship, Dorothy Arzner Memorial Awards, and The
Nancy Richardson Fund. Bijon’s documentary proposal Beyond the Waves won the
Colors of Asia competition at Tokyo Docs.
Bijon has studied Film Theory along with Religious Studies during his Bachelor’s of Arts
degree at University of Oklahoma. He studied Islamic Theology, law and the Quran with
special interest in interpretive theories of different groups of Islam as his thesis
research. His internationally recognized feature film Kingdom of Clay Subjects explore
this theme along with his experimental short film Absolute Truth produced at UCLA.
As a child in Bangladesh, he felt tremendously moved by the medium of film as a tool for
conveying the intimate emotional experiences of human beings. His fascination with the
human condition in the face of social institutions drove my appetite to pursue
flimmaking
